The Iowa legislative session begins on Monday. Education reform promises to be among the top priorities on Governor Terry Branstad’s list. Though his full proposal is not yet known, parts of what the governor is planning have been released. Knoxville Superintendent Dr. Randy Flack tells KNIA/KRLS that though it’s too early to tell what will actually be introduced to the legislature, it’s easy to see that there’s more focus with this package.

Dr. Flack says Gov. Branstad’s priorities have more to do with teacher leadership and compensation, including minimum salaries and leadership opportunities. Last year, Dr. Flack says the legislation was probably too much at once and gave too many opportunities for legislators to pick at things. The legislation this year could be much more specific and focused on certain issues.
