State Representative Guy Vander Linden has spoken out against the DOT’s decision to deny driver’s licenses to the children of illegal immigrants who have been given deferred action status through the Dream Act. Vander Linden says that as a member of the Administrative Rules Committee he has a problem with the DOT’s position. He tell KNIA/KRLS news that the rules would’ve allowed the DOT to grant licenses to these people, but instead of changing the rule, the DOT simply added a phrase to the rule on their website. Furthermore he says that the DOT should not be concerning itself with immigration policy and should be focused on making sure that people who will be driving are licensed and insured. He says this will be an issue he brings up early in the legislative session.
