Wartburg’s offense proved to be too much for Central Wednesday night, as the Knights swept the doubleheader. Mike Jacobsma and his women knew it was going to be a struggle to get any offense going against a stacked Wartburg defense, but the Knights were more than the Dutch could handle in a 69 – 38 final. It was another cold night of shooting for Central, making just 19 percent of their shots, compared to Wartburg’s 51. The Dutch also committed 29 turnovers and failed to get in double digits in any category. Nicole Strasko led the Dutch with eight points. Despite losing by over 30, Central still out-rebounded their opponents 39 – 34. The men started and finished strong, but had no answer for anything in-between, losing their contest 86 – 78. Central had an early lead which quickly evaporated when both teams got involved in a shootout that went Wartburg’s way. The teams combined for 24 made shots from beyond the arc and shot well from the field as a whole (Central: 45.6 percent; Wartburg: 50.9 percent). With the losses, the Central women’s record falls to 7 – 6 overall while the men drop to 7 – 5, and both teams are off to 0 – 2 starts in the Iowa Conference. Luther is next up on the schedule for Central this Saturday.
