On the first official day of 2013, the Pella Christian boys’ basketball team is sitting at a 5 – 2 record, with two tough losses coming at the hands of a pair of undefeated teams at this point in the season. If you ask Eagles’ coach, Larry Hessing, he’ll tell you that he doesn’t care about the records, and that he’s more focused on the performance his kids put on the court. Hessing tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that their latest game against Western Christian has been the epitome of their season so far.
”I’m not too worried about the record right now, I’m just worried about how we’re playing,” Hessing said. “Not all is lost. I think what we saw (against Western Christian) is kind of how we have played this season. We have glimpses of really good play, and then we have some breakdowns. We just need to be more consistent. I think there’s a lot of hope for this team; I think they’re going to be a really good basketball team. We just need to be more consistent with the good play and not let those bad things creep in.”
Right now, the Eagles are prepping for a rivalry game against Pella this Friday evening.
