The Pella Christian boys used a huge second quarter burst to win on the road at Knoxville 63-36 last night and extended their win streak to ten straight. Knoxville hung with Pella Christian early as the Eagles held just a six point lead after one quarter, but a 24-2 run in the second period by Pella Christian was the difference. The Eagles turned up their defensive intensity and held the Panthers scoreless for over seven minutes to build up a 36-8 halftime lead. Pella Christian coach Larry Hessing said he wasn’t real happy with their execution on either end of the floor in the first quarter, but once they settled in, it was a much different story. Despite fouling out late in the game, Austin Ver Meer led all scorers with 13 points, while Jacob Moats led Knoxville with ten points as the Panthers fell to 0-16 for the season. With the win, the Eagles improved to 16-4 and 10-1 in the LHC and secured no worse than a tie for the conference championship as they now hold a full game lead over Grinnell and will host the Tigers in their regular season finale Friday night.
