A Des Moines woman was arrested Sunday after she attempted to impersonate a police officer – from Bussey. Des Moines Police Sergeant Jason Halifax tells KNIA/KRLS News that 36-year-old Danielle Schaffer allegedly stole more than 1100 dollars’ worth of clothes and electronics from a Wal-Mart on the city’s south side. When approached by employees outside the store, Shaffer flashed a badge that said Bussey Police. Halifax says Schaffer also had handcuffs and a handcuff key on her.

After apprehending her, Halifax says they called Marion County officials; they confirmed Bussey has not had a police department for at least seven years. Schaffer remains in the Polk County Jail on charges for theft and impersonating an officer.
