Now that the offense was woken up a bit in their last game against Coe, the Central basketball squads will try to stay hot from the field in a pair of games versus Wartburg at home this afternoon. The Dutch women made only a freezing 19.1 percent of their shots in a 69 – 38 defeat at the hands of the Knights. However, in their upset victory of conference-favorite Coe on Thursday, they were 21-of-48 shooting, and were able to sink 22 free throws. Defense has been a struggle this season for the Dutch men, and it was against the Knights when they first met up. Wartburg defeated Central 86 – 78, were better than 50 percent from the field and made ten baskets from long distance. In fact, when Central holds their opponents to under 60 points, they are 4 – 1. Coach Craig Douma told KNIA/KRLS Sports that right now, the only thing they’ve been able to do is get into old-fashioned “Wild West Shootouts” with teams and hope they’re able to score enough points to come out on top. You can catch all of the action from the P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium on 92.1 KRLS, and streamed live at kniakrls.com with Cory Houser and Justin Webster tagging for the call. Pregame coverage is at 1:45 p.m. and tip-off of the women’s game is at 2:00.
