Eagles’ Girls Begin Return Trek to Wells Fargo Tonight

They got a taste of it last year, and the current Pella Christian girls’ basketball team wants to go back to Wells Fargo Arena for seconds and hopefully a state championship. They’ll start up the road to Des Moines tonight when they host Van Buren in the second round of the Class 2A Girls’ regional tournament. The Eagles survived a late scare by Grinnell to win the Little Hawkeye Conference title and finish with a 16 – 5 record. They are also hoping to have Lauren Jungling back tonight in the starting line-up, but have had Madison Fopma and Hannah Beltman step up big in her absence. The Warriors won 35 – 34 over Pekin to keep their season alive on Saturday. Kevin Van Maanen said that they have played these teams recently, but their main concern is being at 100 percent. You can catch tonight’s big playoff game on 92.1 KRLS and streamed live at KNIAKRLS.com with Cory Houser and Wynne Veenstra on the call. Pregame coverage starts at 6:45 p.m. with tip-off at 7:00.
