The Pella Christian girls’ basketball team starts their run through the state tournament in Des Moines tonight, and will be facing the team that beat them for the Class 2A title last year, Western Christian. The Wolfpack are the number one ranked team in the state in Class 2A, and outlasted the Eagles 82 – 51 back in late December. Pella Christian was able to contain Western’s offense for the first half but could not keep up the intensity in the second half. Coach Kevin Van Maanen told KNIA/KRLS Sports that health and wellness will be their number one concern; he wants to make sure his team is at as close to 100 percent as they can be heading into this evening’s contest. Van Maanen also stressed that offensive execution will be another big factor in the ball game. Round one of the Class 2A girls’ state tournament will be aired live on 92.1 KRLS and streamed live at KNIAKRLS.com, with Cory Houser and Wynne Veenstra on the call. Pregame coverage starts at 4:30 p.m. with tip-off at 5:00. Because of the start time, Focus on the Family will not be aired on today, and the Marion County PM Family Magazine will start an hour early at 4:00.
