At around 2:30 Monday morning, the Pella Fire Department received a report of a residential house fire at 118 E. 9th St in Pella. A father a son escaped the home, the father was forced to crawl out of the window of the single story home after feeling the door and finding it was hot. Pella Fire Chief Doug Van Gorkum says the man took the correct course of action in feeling the door before opening it. He says the location of the house, at the end of a dead end street, made bringing in equipment harder than usual, but they were able to get set up quickly because there was a fire hydrant located next to the residence.
