A family in Columbia is safe after a chimney fire forced them to flee their home in the 2300 block of 103rd, a few hundred feet north of the fire station. Columbia Fire and Rescue, the Knoxville Township Rural Fire Department, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and Mid-American Energy responded to the scene. The call came in at approximately 3:30 AM, and crews cleared the scene shortly before 6AM. Columbia Fire Chief John Pierce tells KNIA/KRLS News that he believes that they managed to save the main part of the home.
