Marion County First Responders trained for ice rescues over the weekend. After a morning of classroom sessions where they learned about the types of ice and how that affects rescues, they headed to a pond in Pella for real life training. The responders donned special suits that kept them dry and warm, and took turns practicing a variety of rescue techniques, from rope throws to ice picks. Responders from other agencies around the county will be out again next weekend to take part in the training. Some departments around the county need funding to purchase ice rescue suits, contact Jeff Anderson, Marion County Emergency Management Coordinator, if you would like to donate.
