The Knoxville Alumni Association asked the School Board to consider their plans to put a shelter at the site of the former swimming pool at Ken Locke Stadium during the board’s regular meeting last night. This year will be the 75th anniversary of the Stadium; the Association wants to have a 60-by-40 foot portion of the structure done by this fall.

There is concern that the dirt fill in that area may not be stable enough to complete construction on and excavation costs may have to be incurred. The school district will be contacting an expert to find out whether they could just partially excavate the area or if all the fill would have to be removed. Alumni Association representatives said they were already getting their fundraising set up – construction costs for the building itself will be around $20,000-$30,000; overall project costs, including setting up utilities and excavation, were estimated at $65,000-$75,000.
