Iowa Senator Amy Sinclair says she has concerns about how the federal sequester could impact the state. She tells KNIA/KRLS News that’s one of the reasons she hesitates to spend the surplus funds that the state has acquired. Sinclair thinks the federal government may shift the weight of their overspending to the states. She says lawmakers met with US Ag Secretary and former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack this past week. Vilsack said they were looking at five-to-eight percent cuts; Sinclair notes that it could impact USDA and federal meat inspectors, eventually trickling down to local producers and driving up food prices.
