The Luther women used sharp long-range shooting, while the men came back to win in overtime, to sweep Central out of Decorah on Wednesday night. Eleven three’s from the Norse were the difference maker in a 71 – 52 victory over the Dutch. Luther shot better than 60 percent from beyond the arc for the game while out-rebounding Central 48 – 35. Kenzie Vander Molen was the top scorer for the Dutch with 17 points. Central’s women fall to 10 – 12 overall and 3 – 8 in the Iowa Conference. It was 27 – 14 at the half in favor of the Central men, but they couldn’t hold the lead late in the game nor in overtime, as they fell 72 – 66. After not making a single shot from downtown in the first 20 minutes, Luther made 7-of-9 to fuel their second half comeback and eventual victory. Jacob Winkler had a monster 34-point effort on 16-of-23 shooting, while Central allowed four Norse starters to get into double figures on the night. Central’s men fall to 9 – 12 overall and are now 2 – 9 in league play. Opportunities are running out for Central to make a postseason push, and with three games left on the schedule, the Dutch will travel to Dubuque to play the Spartans on Saturday.
