Knoxville Hospital and Clinics is transitioning to a new electronic medical records system as they continue to implement more required parts of the affordable health care act. IT Director Thom Richards says that the Cerner system will provide more access to their own health information than ever before. He explains that, when the system is implemented in 10 months, patients will have access to their records electrically with a username and password. The system will improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of patient’s health care. Richards adds it will also allow doctors throughout the country quicker access to medical records in the case of an emergency.
