In what’s been an up and down season, the Pella High boys ended the regular season with a bang last night upsetting fourth ranked Centerville 69-61 ending an 18 game win streak by the Big Red. Bryce Bortscheller gave Pella a huge spark coming off the bench draining five long range shots, while Isaac Naaktgeboren overcame foul trouble which limited his offense, but hit 11 of 12 free throws including six in the final minute to seal the Little Dutch victory. With Pella’s lead cut to six points with :40 to play and Centerville heating up from long range, Naaktgeboren sank two free throws, then stole the inbound pass and was immediately fouled sending him right back to the free throw line where he again sank both extending Pella’s lead to 10 putting it out of reach for the Big Red. Head Coach Mark Core said this was their best effort start to finish this season and gives them momentum and confidence heading into next week’s post season. Bortscheller led Pella with 18 points while Naaktgeboren chipped in 15 and Jordan Pingel added 14 as Pella ends the regular season 13-8 and now prepares to open postseason play Monday night at Bondurant-Farrar.
