Racing out to an enormous first quarter lead, the Pella Christian boys’ basketball team had no problem handling Davis County on Thursday night, winning 69 – 35. The Eagles scored the first ten points of the game, and the first 17 were scored by Austin VerMeer and Jared Van Wyk. The score was 43 – 16 at the half, and Coach Larry Hessing took out his starters when they pushed the lead to 30 one minute into the second half. VerMeer led all scorers with 16, Sebastian Baugh had 14 off the bench, and Van Wyk added 11. Hessing said that his team played an all-around stellar game. The Eagles are now 18 – 4 overall and will face PCM in Oskaloosa this Tuesday in the district final, for a chance to advance to the substate final in Ottumwa.
