Yesterday morning, the United States Postal Service announced it would eliminate Saturday mail delivery beginning in August. Knoxville Postmaster Brian Linville tells KNIA/KRLS News that the announcement was a bit of a surprise. He explains that he first heard the news Tuesday morning as well through an email, adding that he’s still working through on how this will impact his staff and customers. The postal service says they’ll save around 2 billion dollars annually through this change. The post offices will still deliver packages on Saturdays, and those offices that are currently on Saturday will remain open on Saturdays. That also means PO Box mail will continue to be delivered on Saturday.
