With a 6 – 15 record, the Melcher-Dallas girls’ basketball squad will begin the uphill climb towards Des Moines tonight when they travel to Corydon to face Wayne in the first round of the Class 1A regional tournament. The Saints stumbled a bit in their season finale against Twin Cedars on Tuesday, losing 59 – 35. Both the Falcons and Saints met up at the very beginning of the year, with Wayne coming out ahead 58 – 19. Melcher-Dallas committed several turnovers in their regular season debut, but according to Coach Jon Suntken, when postseason time rolls around, everything gets erased and everyone starts from scratch.
“It’s not like they are unbeatable, we just need to bring our ‘A’ game, really, from here on out.” Suntken said. “Once tournament time comes, you throw the records out the window; it doesn’t matter. It’s who shows up that night and who has the best game, they’re going to walk away the winner.”
The action in Corydon gets underway at 7:00 p.m. tonight.
