Two of the four area wrestlers are still alive at the State Individual Wrestling meet after day one of competition. Knoxville’s Aaron Crossett was the only grappler to win his first round match with a nine/two decision over Izaak Shendenhelm of Denver/Tripoli. Crossett will take on Cash Wilkie of O-A/Battle Creek-Ida Grove this afternoon at around three-30. Colton Spaur fell in his first round 182 pound match to the top ranked wrestler in class two-A Jacyn Goebel of West Delaware by pin…but came back to beat Connor Nosbisch of Clear Lake nine/two. Spaur will take an opponent to be determined in the second round consolation bracket this evening. Meanwhile…Trey Busick of Pleasantville was eliminated in the Class 1A 132 pound weight class bracket, after he lost to Taylor Lehman of Clarion/Goldfield by decision 8 – 4, and to Alexander Schmitz of Kuemper Catholic by decision, 17 – 11. Chase Petty of Pella fell in his first round match in Class 3A to Chris Walters of Iowa City West in the 126 pound weight class by decision 17 – 6. Petty followed it up with a close match in the consolation bracket, but couldn’t hold on as he dropped his bout 3 – 2 to Mac Spotts of Mason City.
