Twin Cedars’ girls’ coach, Justin Nolte, will be on the sidelines for his first trip to the Class 1A regional final today, when his team heads to Truro to face Earlham, with a spot in the state tournament up for grabs. The Sabers dispensed of Moravia for the third time this season 74 – 63 this past Friday, thanks to sharp shooting from Brittney Roby, Alee Hugen, and Ayla Crosby. The Cardinals squeaked by Adair-Casey 54 – 48, with junior Abbey Murphy leading her team to victory with a 21-point, 16 rebound effort. Nolte told KNIA/KRLS Sports that he doesn’t know much about Earlham, other than the fact that they are 15 – 9 and have a younger squad than he has. The Sabers’ coach also told KNIA/KRLS Sports that Earlham’s conference (West Central) features several 2A schools, including Des Moines Christian and Van Meter, that they play twice a year, so their record is deceiving. Again, the winner of this evening’s game in Truro will advance to Des Moines and the Class 1A state tournament. That game tips off at 7:00 p.m.
