With only three games left on the Iowa Conference and regular season schedule, both Central basketball teams know what they have to do to at least make it to the conference tournament later this month. This afternoon, both Dutch squads will look for the “W” in Dubuque to face the Spartans. Central’s women are 3 – 8 in league play and are on the outside looking in. There’s currently a three-way tie for fourth place, with three teams sitting at 5 – 6 and three games left to play. Dubuque was able to escape with a 77 – 71 win on January 16 when these teams first met. Central’s men are in the same precarious position, but are in a little better spot. Five of the six teams have locked up a spot in the Iowa Conference tourney, and it’s down to a three-way tie for the sixth spot, with Central, Loras and Simpson all sitting at 2 – 9 marks. The Dutch control their own destiny; they play both Loras and Simpson at home next week, and if they win this last trio of games, they’ll lock-up the sixth seed in the tournament. You can catch all of the drama of today’s college basketball doubleheader on 92.1 KRLS and streamed live on kniakrls.com with Cory Houser calling the game. Pregame coverage starts at 1:45 p.m.
