There may still be snow on the ground here in Iowa, but that’s not stopping the Central baseball team from heading down to the Sunshine State to begin their 2013 season today against Illinois College in the Gene Cusic Classic. With the addition of an extra game to each of the Iowa Conference series’, the limited amount of non-conference games is extremely important to Coach Adam Stevens and his Dutch ballplayers. Stevens said that the team barely missed out on the NCAA tournament last year because of strength of schedule, and this season, right out of the gate even, his guys will be playing some stiff competition. The first pitch of the season opener is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time today.
