The non-conference schedule rolls on for the Central baseball team today as they’ll play their first home game of the season against visiting Grinnell College. The Dutch went 6 – 3 down in Florida, but left on a sour note; dropping their last two games in a heartbreaker and a blowout. Coach Adam Stevens says that even with how they ended the east coast trip, there are plenty of positives to take away from their first handful of games.
“We showed some really good things offensively. I think we can be a little better offensively than we were last year,” Stevens said. “We can run; we really did a good job with our hit-and-run’s. Our defense overall was really good the whole trip so that was a really positive thing. Our infielders did a little better job than I thought they would.”
Stevens also admitted that his pitching staff walked one too many batters and that is something they’ll be looking at correcting, seeing as how that was one of their strengths last year and it came and bit them towards the end of their road trip. The Pioneers enter play with a 3 – 7 record during their excursion down in Florida. Today’s nine-inning game is scheduled for first pitch at 1:00 p.m.
