Sul Ross State and Edgewood were no match for Central softball, as they stormed into Arizona with a pair of victories to begin the Tucson Invitational. The Dutch used a six-run sixth to walk-off with a victory over Sul Ross State, 9 – 1. Even more impressive is that the Central women did it all with two outs. Kelsey Stender got the win by allowing one unearned run on five hits, walking none and striking eight out. She’s now 2 – 2 on the year. Whitney Sowers was 2-for-4 and knocked in three runs for Central, who used the momentum from that game to shutout Edgewood 4 – 0 to complete the sweep of the day. Central scored all four of their runs in the third, and rode the strong pitching of Mallory Schulenburg, who went five innings and only gave up two hits. The Dutch are back to .500 with a 4 – 4 record, and they’ll look to continue their three game winning streak today against Texas Lutheran and Marian.
