Playing a total of fourteen innings in a roundabout way, the Central softball team split their two games Friday in their penultimate day in Tucson, Arizona. Short work was made of Dickinson in the first matchup, as the Dutch won 13 – 1. Dutch pitchers only gave up two hits and an unearned run in six innings of work, as the offense scored eight runs in the final frame of play. Courtney Meyer had one hit, and it was a big one, a two-run shot to center in the first to set the tone early. That ran Central’s winning streak to eight, but that’s as far as it would get, as the Dutch women went to extra innings with Concordia, losing 2 – 1. Each team had plenty of chances to win; Central stranded 11 runners on base with seven hits and six walks, while their pitching staff walked five and only allowed three hits. Kelsey Stender was tagged with the loss, she’s now 3 – 3 on the year, while the Dutch fall to 9 – 5. Central wraps up their southern trip today against Judson and Trinity.
