Avoiding the cold weather north of them here in Iowa, the Central softball team won a pair of games in an abbreviated stay down in St. Louis on Saturday. The Dutch used the power of the home run in both games; starting with a five inning, 8 – 0 shutout of Wisconsin-Platteville. Both Annie Sarcone and Caitlyn Meyer went deep in the game, and Central swiped six bases to walk off a winner in the bottom of the fifth. The power trip continued against Washington-St. Louis and a 7 – 1 victory. The game was tied at one until the sixth, when the Dutch women busted out with a six-run outburst with help from a grand slam off the bat of Katie Canney. Mallory Schulenberg picked up the win in both games to improve to 6 – 1 on the season. Central’s lady sluggers are now 13 – 5, and weather permitting, will have a three game set at home this Friday and Saturday.
