Coming into this season with a lot of youth but a lot of inexperience to go with it, head girls’ track coach at Pella Christian, Kevin Herdegen is looking forward to seeing one thing throughout the spring: Growth. Coach Herdegen said that every year someone surprises him; whether it is an athlete throwing six feet further in the shot put, or a relay team shocking themselves by knocking several seconds off their time. The Eagles’ head coach also told KNIA/KRLS Sports that they are a team that celebrates the small victories and they don’t believe in first place trophies, because that’s not where God places every single athlete. With all of the rain that has practically wiped away all of the snow this weekend, Herdegen said he hopes to spend the entire next week outdoors practicing leading up to their first meet at the end of the month.
