The Knoxville City Council met in regular session last night. The council took action approving a two year collective bargaining agreement with with the PPME Local 2003 employee union, which includes a 2.5% salary increase per year. They also approved an ordinance canceling a previously authorized 5% sewer rate increase. City Manager Harold Stewart says that the rate increase had been approved by a previous council, and that with cost saving efforts and increased efficiency, the department has managed to balance its budget without the rate increase.

They also approved new probationary fire/rescue members, and heard an update on the library expansion, including a library board proposal to seek FEMA money for up to 70-85% of the expansion costs. They reviewed potential fuel purchase options, considered combining the Rec Center and Parks Commissions, and discussed the upcoming RAGBRAI event.
