A new fire and rescue command vehicle has been on the streets of Knoxville over the past few weeks. Knoxville Fire Chief Nick Bonstell says that the vehicle helps in a number of aspects. He explains the vehicle offers a center focal point for incidents. It also helps carry equipment, including devices that can help saved downed firemen as well as pre-plans for a number of commercial buildings. Bonstell tells KNIA/KRLS that it was a minimal investment. The SUV used to be a Public Works vehicle that already included a radio. The light bar and sirens were taken from an old police cruiser. Overall, Bonstell says they’re fortunate to have the command vehicle at this time.
