Lady Dutch head basketball coach, Jerod Garland, admitted that he and his coaching staff expected to get off to a slow start to the 2012-13 season after losing several seniors the year before. That’s exactly what happened to the Pella girls, as they went 1 – 4 in their first five games. Their very next game on the road at Dallas Center-Grimes, said Garland, was when everything started to “click” for his team. They would drop the game by just four, 56 – 52, but it catapulted the team; motivating the Lady Dutch to get out to fast starts and big leads early against virtually every opponent the rest of the season, including a few upset wins over ranked Oskaloosa and Washington.
