The Pella High boys’ golf team isn’t running short on initiative. Bob Fessler, the head coach for the Little Dutch, said that a wide range of players this year have taken it upon themselves to work on their game both during the season and this past offseason. Fessler mentioned that a group of ten or 12 of them have either gone up to Des Moines or over near Reasnor to hit balls. Six others, Fessler said, were in a winter program up in Ankeny also fine tuning their skills. The head coach knows that his guys are ready, and he also knows how much this less-than-ideal weather is killing them. Fessler added that he has spoken with other coaches all over the state, and most of them have six-to-eight inches of snow on the ground, so his club is a little more fortunate than they are. Bos Landen has come close to opening several times in March, but the weather keeps throwing curve balls at them. Pella’s boys are supposed to open the season a week from Monday on April 1 in a triangular meet against Pella Christian and Norwalk.
