A New Sharon Student has been given an award in a statewide writing competition. Each year Governor Terry Branstad holds a “Write Women Back Into History” Contest, where students across the state write about accomplishments of women who were left out of the history books. The theme of this year’s contest was “Women Inspiring Innovation Through Imagination: Celebrating Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics”. Caleb Mark Gipple of North Mahaska Junior High School won third place in the 8th-9th grade competition. He joined the Governor and Lt. Governor at a celebration last week with the other 5 award winners.
