A common theme for the Pella High boys’ basketball team was their ability to hold onto leads when they had them and battle back from behind late in games. Coach Mark Core said that their game late in the season in February against Norwalk was a good indicator of that. Pella was down by 12 in the fourth quarter and battled back to tie the game down the stretch. The Warriors did end up on top of that game 55 – 52, but Core said his junior ball-handler, Jordan Pingel, had his break out performance; scoring 19 points to lead the team. Pingel went on to score 83 points in his next four games to help carry the team to the district final. Core said that he looks forward to getting back most of his starters next season to make another run towards state.
