A sweep of the singles matches highlighted the afternoon for the Pella High boys’ tennis team on Thursday in a 7 – 4 defeat of North Polk. The six varsity players were nearly flawless in their victories, winning in consecutive sets in every single match. After the one-on-one’s were over, head coach Nick Seipel put in some of the reserves to play in the doubles matches, and actually put up a good fight despite winning just one match out of five.
“Our top six on varsity played strong singles matches,” Seipel said. “This allowed us a chance to rotate in their teammates to gain valuable varsity doubles experience. It’s great to see selfless varsity players step back and cheer on their teammates as they step up into competitive match-ups.”
Pella is next at Grinnell on Tuesday.
