Setting the school record for wins with 21? Check. Winning the Bluegrass Conference tournament for the second straight year? Check. Making the regional final for the first time in school history? Check. The list of accolades by the Twin Cedars’ girls’ basketball team this season goes on-and-on. Head coach Justin Nolte said that there’s one that stands out just a little bit more than the others.
“I think winning the conference back-to-back is a great thing,” Nolte said. “Our kids played really hard all year long, and they were focused on trying to win that conference tournament. I think that we had a little bit more energy for that week and we seemed a little bit more excited about playing. That was a great thing for us; those kids had also played in that conference tournament championship four years in a row, and I’ve been coaching here in the conference for 12 years and that hasn’t been done in the last 12 years since I’ve been here and I’m sure that’s ever been done before.”
Nolte added that he’s probably the most proud of his team for getting to the regional final for the first time in school history and that his girls would agree that that accomplishment means the most to them. Twin Cedars finished the season with a 21 – 4 record.
