Thirty-two minutes and 20 lead changes later, the Sheldon Orabs ended up on top of the Pella Christian Eagles, 63 – 57 in round one of the Class 2A boys’ state tournament. The Eagles were able to deny the Orabs’ leading scorer, Dallas Ennema for most of the ballgame, but it was the play of senior Chris Balster and his 21 points that did the job for Sheldon. The two teams traded leads in the second half until a quick 6 – 0 run late in the third gave the Orabs the lead for good. Assistant coach for the Eagles, Marv Van Wyk said that Sheldon’s aggressiveness throughout the game was what tipped the scales in their favor. Riley Stursma led all scorers with 22 points while Austin Ver Meer capped his final season with a double-double effort of ten points and ten boards. Pella Christian finished the season with a record of 20 – 5 and will lose seven seniors off their squad.
