With a brisk wind blowing in from center field, the Central baseball team managed a split on an afternoon filled with errors in Cedar Rapids against Coe. The Dutch looked to be in control from the start of the first game, getting out to a 3 – 0 lead in the third inning, before squandering two leads and falling to the Kohawks, 6 – 4. Designated hitter, Robbie Rushing was the top performer of the game, going 2-for-2 with an RBI double. Central righted the ship in the nightcap; with just a 3 – 2 lead in the eighth inning, Dutch second baseman, Spencer Gritsch came to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs, and walloped a 2-2 pitch to the left-centerfield wall to clear the bases and give his team a four-run lead. The game would not end without drama, however, as reliever Judson McKown pitched the bottom of the ninth and allowed the tying run to come to the plate with the bases loaded and got him to pop out and the subsequent batter to ground out to end the game for a 7 – 4 Central win. Starter Ryan Dusil got the win, allowing just one run, and improved his record to 3 – 0. Central is 13 – 6 overall and 5 – 3 in the Iowa Conference, and the Dutch dropped both of their games on Sunday to the Kohawks to fall to 13-8 and 5-5.
