Central baseball batters kept scratching their heads Monday afternoon as they were unable to figure out Loras’ pitching staff in a doubleheader defeat in their Iowa Conference opener. The two teams were supposed to play back on March 23 but unplayable field conditions forced one pair of games to be postponed to Monday. The Duhawks jumped on the Dutch early; scoring five runs in the second inning off of Dirk Lindaman, who suffered his first loss of the season. Central dropped the first game 11 – 0 in the seven-inning affair, then played a more competitive game in the nightcap, but lost 8 – 6. Defense was an issue for Central; committing four errors in each game. The Dutch are now 7 – 5 on the year and start league play with a mark of 0 – 2, and will turn right around and head to Cornell this evening for a non-conference nine-inning game. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
