Caitlyn Meyer continues to impress for the Central softball team, as she collected five hits, including a tiebreaking home run to help lift her team to a sweep of Buena Vista on Monday. Meyer got the scoring going in game number one with her fifth long ball of the year to break a scoreless tie in the fourth. Emily Te Brink added an RBI single, and that’s all Central needed in a 2 – 0 shutout win to open the afternoon. Mallory Schulenberg and Kelsey Stender combined to keep the goose egg on the Buena Vista side of the scoreboard, and the Dutch offense finished the job in the nightcap, winning 10 – 3. Meyer was 5-for-5 on the day, raising her average to a beefy .426. The wins were key for Central, as they were in a four-way tie for first place in Iowa Conference play, and now the Dutch sit with a 23 – 6 overall record with a 7 – 1 mark in the league, and have a huge doubleheader Wednesday against a 25 – 3 Coe squad who are also 7 – 1 in the conference.
