Some rural residents of Marion County still use wells, and flooding can cause damage to well components and contaminate water. Cory Frank with Marion County Public Health says it is important to follow safety and health recommendations when preparing wells for reuse. One needs to inspect for hazards, be sure to turn off any electricity nearby, clear debris, and be sure to protect oneself from the chlorine solutions when they are being prepared.
