A 20-year-old Des Moines man faces several felony charges after a drug arrest on Thursday. Justin James Vandermartin is currently in the Marion County Jail on $61,000 bond.
According to court documents, authorities went to a residence on the 300 block of South Roche Street in Knoxville last night looking to serve a warrant to another man. Vandermartin said the suspect wasn’t around and allowed officers to search the residence. Officers found a backpack with several items used to make methamphetamine, including coffee filters, pseudoephedrine pills, and starter fluid. Vandermartin allegedly admitted the backpack was his and he was going intending to make meth. He’s been charged with conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine; possession of precursor – lithium; possession of precursor – pseudoephedrine; and possession of drug paraphernalia. He’ll appear in court next week. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
