A blowout win and a heartbreaking loss marked the evening for the Pella High soccer teams against Fairfield on Thursday evening. The Lady Dutch won 8 – 0 in another offensive explosion for Coach Mark Howard’s team. His girls were up just 2 – 0 after the first half and Howard says a fire was lit underneath them at halftime, as they took control of the game and won easily. Bri Schroeder had another four-point night, with a hat trick and an assist, while Gabi Meirick also had four points with a goal and three helpers. The boys had a little tougher time, as they let a late goal go past them on a defensive lapse, and Fairfield’s defense tightened up the rest of the game in a 1 – 0 defeat of Pella. The Lady Dutch are 2 – 0 to begin the season while the Little Dutch are 2 – 1; the girls’ next game is on Monday at Marshalltown, while the boys will be in a tournament against Waukee and Bettendorf on Saturday.
