Both the lady and gentlemen Mustangs’ golfers at PCM had nice outings despite the brisk temperatures in their first meet of the season on Tuesday. The PCM girls defeated both Des Moines Christian and Eddyville-Blakesburg, recording a team score of 210; a whopping 67 strokes better than Des Moines Christian and 70 fewer than the Rockets. Cassidy VanVeen was the medalist of the evening, recording a nine-hole round of 50 to lead all golfers, as the entire team for Coach Val Edwards were the top six golfers on the night. Edwards told KNIA/KRLS Sports that her girls’ only struggles were in reading the greens, but otherwise, she was very pleased with the results. The PCM boys defeated Eddyville-Blakesburg by 60 strokes, 146 to 206. Returning Class 2A Player of the Year, Hunter Van Veen shot a 33 to lead the Mustangs. The PCM girls are next in action on Saturday at Chariton while the Mustangs’ boys are in Altoona for a varsity invitational on Monday against six other schools.
