Just 14 strokes separated Pella Christian from Newton in a triangular golf meet on Tuesday. Newton shot a combined 207, while the Eagles came up with a 221 to finish second, and Knoxville was a distant third with 311. Autumn Vos for Pella Christian tied for runner-up medalist honors with her nine-hole score of 53 while Cori Uitermarkt and Amy Dunsbergen each shot 54 for the Eagles. Coach Larry Hessing said that his girls did a good job in their first meet despite the cool and windy conditions. Jim Dingeman’s gentlemen Eagles technically lost their meet to Oskaloosa, despite tying in the team score. The tiebreaker was the fifth score, and the Eagles lost that to the Indians 46 – 51. Mason Howerzyl (How-Er-Zyle) was meet medalist with his score of 35. A quad meet is next up tomorrow for the Pella Christian boys at Bos Landen, against Pella, PCM and Dallas Center-Grimes.
