Area jazz musicians did very well at the recent Iowa Jazz Championships. In class 3A Pella took second place, as did North Mahaska in 1A. Katie McGriff of North Mahaska on bass guitar took an outstanding performer award. In class 3A Sara DeVries of Pella on clarinet/trumpet was also named an outstanding performer. Ben Thompson directs the Jazz Band at Pella High, and Bruce Peiffer is director of the Jazz Band at North Mahaska.
