Marion County’s Intensive Treatment Court has its first graduate. Steven Bacus became the first individual to compete the program this week. The program was started last September in an attempt to find a solution to individuals with multiple public intoxication arrests. Enrollees are required to undergo a substance abuse evaluation, complete treatment, and obtain and maintain full-time employment, among other requirements.

County Attorney Ed Bull says that he’s thrilled with the progress the Intensive Treatment Program has made. He says 14 people are in the program right now, and all of them have jobs, are in treatment, and are working toward making themselves productive members of society.

Judge Steve Guiter says he’s encouraged by the efforts being put forth by the participants and he’s hopeful that they’ll be able to use what they’ve learned to improve their lives.
