Around 50 people were at the Knoxville Recreation Center last night for the public forum regarding its facility assessment. Representatives from SVPA Architect say the building is in pretty good shape, considering its age, but will need some general upkeep. They explained possible ideas for expansion, noting that the main driver for expansion has been the numerous programming opportunities provided by staff. They suggested a dedicated fitness studio space could free up open gym time for kids and others.
The public discussed needed upgrades to the locker room and how to better utilize the swimming pool space. An outdoor aquatic center was also discussed. SVPA will be taking what they heard last night and utilizing it as part of a final report.
