Knoxville seventh graders were recognized last week for poetry and art done for the River of Words contest. After taking field trips this fall, seventh graders created poems and artwork having to do with water and the environment. Winning first place in the art competition was Kayla Moats; Travis Peterson was second and Ben Wallace was third. In the poetry contest, Makenzie Varner was first, Taylor Purvis was second and Madison Shilling was third. The contest was in part sponsored by the Next Chapter, who gave gift certificates to top three in each category. Much of the art and poetry is now being considered for statewide awards.
